About Our Classes

Conceptually Structured Classes - Each of our classes is built around a theme, allowing students to make comparisons and ask questions about a variety of topics within the same class.

Independent Classes - We have designed class outlines for teachers to lead their own classes. These Independent Class outlines (listed below) are available upon request.
Rock Eagle Hike, Campfire, New Games, Cemetery Studies, and Dragons and Dragonflies

Correlations - Our classes have been correlated to GPS.  Click here to go look at the GPS Correlations.

Journals - We encourage you to have your students keep journals while at Rock Eagle. It may help you in assessment, as well as being a powerful tool in self-reflection for students. It may also be a great memory piece for them in the future. Breaks between classes and before or after meals are great times for students to write in their journals. It is most effective if they are given time to write at least a little bit at the end of every class. Click here for a list of our classes with journal questions.

Vocabulary - In order to assist in your students' preparation for Rock Eagle classes, many of our classes have vocabulary pages. Click here for a list of our classes with vocabulary pages.

Class Selection and Scheduling - Choose from the classes by reading the class descriptions. Remember to look at the Independent Classes Section for classes your school's teachers will lead. Note that some classes have certain restrictions in the description (i.e. group size, grade specific classes, etc...). Read the descriptions carefully and call if you have any questions (706-484-2834 or 706-484-2862).

Use the following guidelines for scheduling classes:

Three day, two-night trips :

- Choose five day classes for Rock Eagle staff to teach and one day class for school staff to lead.

- Choose two hours of evening classes for Rock Eagle staff to teach and activities for the other evening which school staff will lead.

Two day, one-night trips :

-Choose three day classes for Rock Eagle staff to teach.

-Choose a one hour evening class for Rock Eagle staff to teach, and a one hour evening activity for school staff to lead.

Day Trips:

- Choose up to three day classes. Also, include any meals your group is planning on eating at the dining hall. Look at our Day Programming page for more information.

-If you desire a schedule different from those listed above, please call the Environmental Education Department (706/484-2834) for details.
